Shipping balance and EirLink
A shipping balance is money you top up in advance and spend on EirPost labels. Top up once, then every label you create comes straight off the balance: no card at checkout, no waiting for a payment to clear.
Topping up
- Open Shipping balance in the dashboard.
- Pick one of the amounts, or enter your own. The smallest top-up is €10.
- Pay by card. The balance updates within a few seconds.
Top-ups are non-refundable and never expire. They are used only for EirPost shipping labels.
Until your first label is created there is a limit on how much you can top up in one go and in a day. It lifts by itself once you have created a label.
Paying for a label
- On the payment page, pick Pay from balance.
- If the balance does not cover the order, you are told the amount that is short and offered a top-up. You come back to the same order.
- The amount is held while the label is being created, and taken when An Post confirms the parcel. If the label fails, the money goes back on the balance.
Connecting EirLink
EirLink is the shipping app for your shop. Connecting it lets EirLink create EirPost labels for your orders, paid from this same balance.
- Start from eirlink.ie/eirpost and follow the link to EirPost.
- Sign in, or create an account, then read what the connection can do and choose Approve.
- EirLink can create labels using your balance and read your balance and tracking. It cannot top up, cancel or change your account.
- You can revoke it at any time under Settings, Connections and API access. Labels already in progress will finish.
API keys
If you write your own software, create an API key on the same page. The token is shown once, so copy it there and then. A test key creates An Post test parcels and nothing is charged. The full reference is on the API documentation page.
Why does Rofsen appear on my label?
Rofsen is the registered business name on our An Post account and appears on every EirPost label. Your own return address is what a recipient sends the parcel back to.
Weights
Parcel weights only need to be broadly right: pick the nearest band and round up when in doubt. An Post weighs parcels and bills the band the parcel actually falls into, and if that is higher than the weight you entered we re-rate the label and take the difference from your balance in the monthly reconciliation.
Cancelling a label
There is no cancel button. Email contact@eirpost.ie with the tracking number. If the parcel can be stopped we credit the label back to your balance.
